have a step by step plan to complete by genius hour project is quite simple. I plan to design a simple healthy foods list and plan for middle school athletes. So for soccer players and football players I will give them a piece of paper of healthy foods listed, Me and My partner Jimmy Galbraith will then hand out these programs to the athletes so they can hopefully gain some knowledge. The list will show the best protein based foods, Carbohydrate based foods, and the best healthy fatty foods. If they dont understand whats on the list they can visit my website which is posted on the piece of paper.
I thought the Sir ken Robinson had some smart presentation skills. He worked with the audience which helps them stay in tune with what hes saying. He also would kind of identify a negative so when he then talked about a positive he would make it seem like that idea was the all more better. When he would do this, it kind of made the audience realize how poor our education system is and why how desperately we need to improve our education system. His talk resonated with me in a good way, i agree that we need to improve our education system otherwise the whole system will soon fail.
Genius hour may support this because genius hour is about making a positive change in the world or even community. its like Sir ken's presentation is a bigger form of a genius hour in a way. He's thriving for change and showing the outcome if the change doesnt occur. similar to how you wont be a good athlete unless eating the proper foods. The most useful resource i have used so far would be the internet. On the web I have found multiple forums and research through youtube. On youtube their are many videos on which foods are good and which are bad. as well as videos for best foods for athletes, which is what i'm studying. The forums are helpful because I can get a good idea of which foods are best after seeing what a few different sites had to say.
While browsing the web i stumble upon good photos to put on my website. photos such as food pyramid. Other photos such as a fact sheet that includes food labels on common foods that people think are healthy, such as gatorade. The amount of sugars in these drinks are way to high for the amount of liquid in one bottle. Im glad i find these becuase most athletes dont understand how bad some sport like foods are. They will eat/drink what ever they see the pro's endorce. There are ways in which i can use my time more wisely while working on my genius hour. I often find my self working on my website a lot. Its not a bad thing, but i feel i should be looking at more research and facts about certain foods for athletes. sometimes i will use the entire hour just trying decide to put a cool photo on a certain page of my site. Or trying to decide what website to link to on my homepage. If i had unlimited funds to capitalize on my genius hour project, what would it look like?10/10/2014 If I had unlimited funds I would do a lot of things for my project. I would start by opening a fitness/ recreation center. A place where all athletes could come and work on their skills for the sport they play. Everything would be there, football fied, soccer field, tennis courts, swimming pool, volleyball courts skatepark etc. At this center there would be classes on Nutritional importance and how these athletes can eat the best foods for the best outcome.
Outside of the fitness center I would try to make meal plans for athletes depending on the sport they played. for instance swimmers need a higher calorie intake per day than a basketball player. only because swimming is a sport where more calories are burned depending on the swimmer of course. So with these customized plans athletes can gain knowledge on foods while investing in themselves by eating right. I would also start a charity for those in other countries that dont even play sports, it would be for those who dont even get three meals a day. I would get as much healthy and proper food to as many third world countries as possible. Instead of sending a thousand bags of doritos we could substitute that with healthy crackers. kids who starve on a daily basis need the best possible foods out there, and my goal would be to help them with that. There are many people who arent athletes, but I wanna help them too! Obesity in America is just ridiculous. especially in the younger generations. I would start programs and travel around or have workers travel around to schools. These workers would then share how truly bad certain foods are for you. The workers would bash fast food to the deepest legal extent. most people dont realize that most fast food nowadays as so many ingredients that arent even foods. its fake. with healthy food rising in price for some dumb reason, I would donate a large sum to each school visited to kickstart a healthy food program. and then after that educate the athletes of these schools. What Excites me most about my topic is sports. every athlete is involved in a sport they love and what to do their best at. These athletes will do what ever it takes to excel in their sport. While few athletes have knowledge about eating the right foods for sports most do not. There are specific foods that athletes need to learn about the can help them improve. You put garbage in you will get garbage out. What concern you most about your genius hour project? What concerns me is that I wont be able to stay on a strict eating habit when it comes to eating healthy before/during/after my sporting events. also some people probably dont think eating will affect their level of play, but do you really think eating a snickers, brownie and a two liter of soda will help you score the winning point? so my goal is to track my progress of having healthy eating habits and then inform those who read this how i feel with these good changes. And what i feel improved. What Progress Have you made so far? So far I have been cutting back on the unhealthy foods. These foods include, Soda, candy, chocolate, sugary items such as syrup for my flap-Jacks. Its a little to soon to tell but I already feel like i have more energy. Also now becuase I am eating healthier i feel better about what im eating which in turn helps me have a more positive attitude. Instead of saying " wow, I should not have eaten that twinkie because I have a game later!"
